How does a bet calculator work?

A bet calculator turns betting odds and your stake into three numbers: the profit you make if the bet wins, the total payout (profit plus your stake back), and the implied probability, which is the win chance the odds represent.

Formulas

American: +X profit = stake × X ÷ 100, probability = 100 ÷ (X + 100). -X profit = stake × 100 ÷ X, probability = X ÷ (X + 100).
Fractional n/d: profit = stake × n ÷ d, probability = d ÷ (n + d).
Decimal D: profit = stake × (D − 1), probability = 1 ÷ D.

Frequently asked questions

What is implied probability in betting?

It is the chance of winning that the odds suggest. For decimal odds it is 1 divided by the odds, so 2.00 implies 50%.

How do I calculate profit from American odds?

For positive odds, profit = stake × odds ÷ 100. For negative odds, profit = stake × 100 ÷ the absolute odds. A $100 bet at +150 profits $150; at -150 it profits $66.67.

What is the difference between profit and payout?

Profit is what you win on top of your stake. Total payout is profit plus the stake you get back.

How do I convert fractional odds to decimal odds?

Divide the numerator by the denominator and add 1. Fractional 5/2 equals decimal 3.50.

Which odds does this calculator accept?

American odds must be -100 or lower, or +100 or higher. Fractional odds need a numerator and denominator between 1 and 100. Decimal odds must be greater than 1 and less than 100.
